In the early afternoon our mail relay decided to stop forwarding mail. The issue was rectified at approx 4:00pm Saskatchewan time.

Amazon EC2 Outage and Recovery

Understanding the recent Amazon Cloud outage.

From the early morning April 21st until late at night April 23rd the Amazon Cloud suffered a massive outage at their Virginia data center. This is the location where our shared hosting server is located and as such this outage disrupted service for most all of our customers. This server is now back in operation and functioning normally.

Incorrect routing had our mail server isolated on outgoing mail once again. Much like the previous trouble this was caused by our data service provider and was out of our control.

It has been proven to be another trouble with the same data circuit that is causing the outgoing mail top be blocked. We are working with our ISP to get this resolved ASAP.

Server maintenance window concluded on DFH#4

Server maintenance on DFH#4 has been completed with the upgrading of MySQL to 5.1 and PHP to 5.3.3 (latest stable versions). The upgrade did take longer than anticipated but in the end provided a measurable performance improvement on the server.

Planned server maintenance starting October 15th 11:00pm CST for approx 2 hours

To keep up with the changes in website coding requirements we are planning to upgrade PHP and MySQL to newer versions. If all goes well the upgrades should be transparent and no down time will be experienced.

E-mail maintenance and SPAM filtering

June 14th was the day for some routine mail server maintenance that ended up causing mail interruption and the spam filtering software to lock up. The maintenance cleared over 600,000 backed up spam mails from the server.

New server on-line after DFH#3 suffers a fatal hard drive failure

After last nights scheduled maintenance was finished, DFH server #3 suffered a hardware failure involving its main hard drive during the wee hours of the morning. After a 21 hour marathon session (thanks goes out to all involved!) a new cloud hosting server is in place.

DFH#3 Plesk and webmail issues

During the routine maintenance a session file for Plesk has become "locked" and at the moment is unchangeable. As such Plesk cannot be started on the server.

DFH #1 is back up and running after a power outage (caused by a 2000 amp power box melting causing the entire building to be out of power).

Datacenter Fire interruppts service for Server #3

A data center fire that occurred on Saturday has caused a service interruption. We have re-routed several of the affected protocols and everything is back up - although you may experience some slower access over the next few days as the data center is rebuilt and other servers deal with the backlog of traffic.

Offsite backup server off line.

Update!! The backup server is back online. The troubles were traced to a faulty ethernet switch that would intermittantly pass traffic. The switch has been replaced and all traffic is flowing properly.

Server reboot

As of 6:15am Saskatchewan time 2007-06-27 (not daylight savings time) DFH server #3 was rebooted due to unresponsiveness. Since the reboot it has been functioning normally.
